Employee Morale Activity:
Celebrate Freedom – July 4th Celebration
Now, more than ever, employees in the USA appreciate, and want to celebrate our many freedoms. Since July 4th comes on Friday this year, plan to have your Independence Day celebration early in the week.
=> Independence Day Mural
Do this several days ahead of your celebration. Get a roll of heavy white paper and attach it to a wall or lay it out on a long table. Have colored pens available for employees to write why they are grateful to live in the United States. They can write a few sentences and/or draw pictures. Even employees who are not U.S. citizens can appreciate the many freedoms they, too, enjoy in the U.S.
=> Essay Contest
Ask employees to write one page on what it means to be living in the United States of America. Post the essays on a bulletin board or print them in a booklet. Have prizes for the top three essays and a participation prize for everyone who contributes.
=> Independence Day Lunch
Ask everyone to wear red, white, and blue. Decorate the tables with tablecloths, flags and red, white & blue balloons. Serve traditional American food such as hot dogs or fried chicken and apple pie. Play patriotic music. Hand out song sheets and have a patriotic sing along. Display the mural that the employees created, and have some people volunteer to read what they wrote. Read the winning essays.
You may have some employees in your company who are naturalized citizens. If so, ask them to tell their stories of how they came to the U.S. and their experiences of becoming citizens.

Joke of the Week
I was in the express lane at the store quietly fuming. Completely ignoring the sign, the woman ahead of me had slipped into the checkout line pushing a cart piled high with groceries.
Imagine my delight when the cashier beckoned the woman to come forward, looked into the cart and asked sweetly, “So which six items would you like to buy?”
