Trivia Question of the Week
Q. What color is Diamond dust? (Answer at the end of this newsletter.)
Employee Morale
Garden Giveaway
This is another great idea contributed by Ann Heatherton who contributed last week’s morale booster.
Our garden guru, Ralph, an employee who harvests hundreds of plants each year in his yard, and shares his crops (zucchini, lemons, etc.) with pals at work, came to me for help in coordinating this year’s tomato plant distribution.
He was concerned he wouldn’t get sufficient interest.
I immediately saw it as a good posting for the ShareBoard.
(If you remember from last week’s newsletter, Ann wrote us how she created a ShareBoard for her employees to post items of personal interest.)
I also got the word out via email that said,
——
Garden Giveaway
Great Tomato Plants to Good Homes
This Thursday and Friday
——
…and our guru brought in over 150 tomato plants (planted in styrofoam cups) to share at our big Garden Giveaway.
The next week, I created an award, asked our director to sign it, and presented it to Ralph. It hangs in a plexiglass frame in his work station. (He was really tickled to get it.) Ralph said to me: “Wow, management didn’t acknowledge my past plant giveaways.”
This week Ralph will guide me in arranging a little competition for the best tomatoes (oddest shape, best flavor, biggest, smallest, etc.) and we’ll reward the winners with fun awards, of course.
Oh, I added a section on the ShareBoard called – The Daily Dirt -.
It’s a place where those with green thumbs (or not…) can share their tomato plant growing experiences with the rest of us.
Personally, I’m hoping one of my four plants gets a visit from a big, fat worm which will make a fun photo to post on the ShareBoard.
Answer to This Week’s Trivia Question
Q. What color is Diamond dust?
A. Black
Joke of the Week
I had taken my country upbringing for granted until I realized how differently my children, with their town perspectives, saw things. On a rural car trip last spring, the familiar fragrance of horse manure from the surrounding fields was especially noticeable.
Our three-year-old paused as she climbed out of the van, then remarked, “It smells like a parade.”
