I Made a Difference Basket

Contributed by Yvonne Dunbar RN BSN

I am a nurse manager at a small community medical center in New Jersey. At Bayonne Medical Center, we receive many complimentary letters and phone calls from our patients and families. In the letters, many patients state the following,

“Please recognize the staff and physicians for the exemplary compassionate care they provided me during their stay at Bayonne Medical Center.”.

The -I Made A Difference Program- was created to meet this request.

Whenever someone is mentioned, we share the letter at their staff meeting or on the unit. We thank them for Making A Difference in the lives of our patients and families. Then they select a token of appreciation from the -I Made A Difference basket- (which has an assortment of items from chocolates, cookies, lotions, accessories etc). They also have their picture taken and placed on the satisfaction board.

Joke of the Week

The young girl ran to the driveway to greet her grandmother, pulling at her to hurry her out of the car.

“Hurry Grandma!” the girl said. “Come on in! Daddy is going to do a magic trick!”

“I didn’t know your dad was a magician” said the grandmother.

“Oh yea.” She replied. “He said if you came over he would climb the walls!”
