Employee Morale Activity:
Workplace Treasure Hunt Gets Employees to Work Early
Contributed by subscriber, Mark Cooper
This creative idea combines suspense, excitement, thinking, and fun. This is what Mark wrote to us:
We had a treasure hunt that was a real morale booster. I hid a $100 certificate (indicating that it could be redeemed by me for $100) as part of our County/Public Service Appreciation Week. I released a clue via email every morning at 7 a.m. It took four days before the certificate was found.
(It was taped to the bottom of the shoe of another manager. Therefore, the prize was constantly on the move. All of the clues had something to do with walking, shoes, etc. The manager was on the second floor and it sounded like a stampede when the fourth clue was given and employees figured out where the certificate was hidden.)
The year before, I hid the certificate on the bottom of a trash can that was transported by our custodian while he emptied trash. He, too, had the opportunity to find the $100.
For a minimum investment by me, this improved employee morale significantly and we all had a lot of fun playing. The ‘Treasure Hunt’ also got employees to work earlier than normal because they couldn’t wait to read their emails.

Joke of the Week
Truth in Advertising
Driving along a country road, I ignored a Bridge Out sign and continued on. But in a few miles I came to a stop: The road was completely barricaded. So I turned around and retraced my route. That’s when I saw this sign on the back of the first: “It was, wasn’t it?”
