Word and Quote of the Week

*** Positive Outlook ***

*** Don’t be discouraged by a failure. It can be a positive experience. Failure is, in a sense, the highway to success, inasmuch as every discovery of what is false leads us to seek earnestly after what is true.”

– John Keats

Trivia Question of the Week

Q. What city became the United States Capital in 1789? (Answer at the end of this newsletter.)

Employee Morale Activity

Smiley Face Poster Contest

World Smile Day is the first Friday in October. Smiles are important because they add sparks of energy that light up the room and make everyone happy.

Here is an idea that can boost Morale and add “smiles” to everyone’s faces.

Pass out mini-poster boards or card stock paper to all employees. Encourage each employee to be creative and design a “Smiley Face” Poster!

Employees can use any art medium to express their creativity; for example, use watercolors, colorful markers, crayons, paint pens, calligraphy and three dimensional craft ideas to name just a few.

Provide a form for judging the posters.

The categories can be:

* creative,

* colorful,

* humorous,

* weird,

or any other ideas that you come up with for your contest.

Poster Parade

At the end of the week, you can set aside some time to have everyone get together. Then, you can have a “Poster Parade” for all those who participated to walk around with their posters. You could also have a pot luck lunch, and have everyone show off their posters!

Award 1st, 2nd, 3rd prizes in each category and give smiley face stickers to all who participated. After all employees have created their posters, then they can be posted on a wall.

For example:

A lunch area is a good place to hang the colorful posters of smiley faces.

What a great way to celebrate “World Smile Day”
