iStock_000005250604XSmallAre your company meetings dull, leaving employees complacent or distracted? Sometimes all it takes is one simple morale booster to get things going. With this creative morale booster, instant laughter gets people’s attention, and creates positive energy.

As you are most likely aware, meetings can be boring, and your employees can be easily distracted with their own thoughts, or their cell phones, etc. If you want to get your agenda accomplished, you need to keep their attention. The best way to do this is with humor.

When employees hear others laughing at a meeting, they immediately look to see what they missed. They don’t want to miss out on the fun. Then they start paying attention to the meeting because they don’t want to miss out on more fun. Therefore, laughter leads to learning and accomplishing.

The Seriously Silly Solution is… The Silly Name Game

Here’s a humor activity that’s easy, fun, and creates energy and laughter. The best part is that it doesn’t take much time or cost any money.

One Manager’s Success Story

Yesterday in a Manager meeting, we played the silly name game, and it was highly successful. Not only did employees have to be creative in describing themselves with the silly names, but it also energized our group with a lot of laughter.

How We Played the Silly Name Game

Basically, I went online to the Confidence Center’s free resources/fun pages, and clicked Silly Names Renamer and printed approximately 25 names on name tags.

At the beginning of the meeting, I had all the “silly” name tags in bag and asked everyone to draw a name (if they found the name offensive, they could choose another). I had colorful blank name tents (made out of card stock) at each seat and a blank sheet of paper attached to the meeting agenda. I asked employees to each write their name on a tent card.

Then on the blank paper, I asked each of them to briefly create a story (based on their silly name) about their family and what type of career they had. We all laughed during the day long meeting. We called employees by their silly names. This kept the laughter in the room and kept people’s attention throughout the day.

This was a fun and entertaining way to keep our employees happy and energized. And our only expense was the paper.

Fun, Easy, and Free Morale Booster Creates Great Results!

This morale booster helped everyone bond together, and made for a lighter and more fun, and energized, atmosphere. This activity proves that it is very possible to raise employee morale with little or no cost. And while the activity itself may seem silly, it can make a serious difference in your employees’ overall morale. So your company may want to risk being “silly” for some seriously beneficial results!
