Plan Ahead for Independence Day – July 4th<\/h3>\n

July 4th is Independence Day in the USA<\/p>\n

Freedom is our most precious possession. Celebrating this freedom at work makes us appreciate the freedom we have.<\/p>\n

(Although July 4th is USA Independence Day, if you are one of our many subscribers in other countries, you can use these ideas to celebrate freedom in your own way.)<\/p>\n

Independence Day Mural<\/p>\n

Several days ahead of your celebration spread a roll of heavy white paper on a long table.<\/p>\n

Have colored pens available for employees to write why they are grateful to live in the United States.<\/p>\n

They can write a thought and\/or draw pictures. Even employees who are not U.S. citizens can appreciate the many freedoms they, too, enjoy in the U.S.<\/p>\n

Essay Contest<\/p>\n

Hold an Essay Contest titled, What Freedom Means To Me. Set a limit of one typewritten page in length.<\/p>\n

Post all of the entries on a Wall Of Freedom in the hallway of your company for all employees to read. Put a picture of the employee next to his or her essay.<\/p>\n

Choose 3 – 5 winners who will read their essays at your Independence Day lunch.<\/p>\n

Give the winners certificates, and give everyone who participates a small American flag.<\/p>\n

Independence Day Lunch<\/p>\n

Print song sheets of patriotic songs, and have a patriotic sing-a-long. Play a recording of the songs, or invite a talented employee to play a musical instrument.<\/p>\n

Serve typical American food such as fried chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad, and apple pie.<\/p>\n

Ask employees to wear red, white, and blue clothes, and decorate with July 4th tablecloths and red, white, and blue balloons.<\/p>\n

As a claims adjuster, I often visit people who have injuries from accidents. One day when visiting an elderly client’s home for the first time, I was barely able to introduce myself before she launched into a long recitation of her many aches, pains, medications and treatments, and the details of her many doctors’ visits.<\/p>\n

I took notes furiously, trying to keep up. Finally, she remarked: “But I shouldn’t really complain. At least I haven’t been in an accident like my poor sister. I suppose you’re here to see her?”<\/p>\n
